The statute of limitations specifies the deadline for a party to file a lawsuit.  The time period typically starts when the injured party realizes, or should have realized, that he/she has been harmed.  There are different statutes of limitations for different states and for different causes of action.  The following is a state-by-state overview of the statute of limitations for different categories of lawsuits.
